The image generator with the strongest default aesthetic and the deepest style control
Midjourney generates images from text prompts with a distinctive, highly refined visual default that most competitors approximate rather than match. Style references, character references and parameter controls give experienced users precise repeatability.
Midjourney competes on taste. Given the same lazy prompt, it produces a better-looking image than almost anything else, because the model is tuned toward a specific aesthetic rather than neutral literalism. For creative work that is an advantage; for documentation diagrams it is the wrong tool.
The reference systems are what separate professional use from hobby use. Style references lock a visual treatment across a series, character references hold a subject consistent between scenes, and together they turn a slot machine into something closer to art direction. Teams that skip learning them get a fraction of the value.
Two limits shape adoption. Text inside images is still unreliable, so anything with typography needs a design tool afterward. And the absence of a practical API means Midjourney sits outside automated content pipelines — you generate, you export, you move on manually.
