Claude

Anthropic's assistant, strongest on long-document reasoning, careful writing and agentic tool use

4.5
by AnthropicUpdated

Overview

Claude is Anthropic's chat assistant, available on the web, desktop and mobile alongside a developer API. It is favored for long-context analysis, structured writing and code work, and it anchors the Model Context Protocol ecosystem.

Key capabilities

  • Long context window
  • Projects
  • Artifacts
  • MCP connectors
  • File analysis
  • Code execution

Strengths

  • Handles large document sets and long transcripts with less drift than most competitors
  • Artifacts turn generated code and documents into editable side-panel objects rather than chat text
  • Native MCP support connects it to internal systems without custom glue code
  • Prose output needs less editing — fewer stock phrases and less padding than rival assistants

Limitations

  • Message limits on the strongest model arrive quickly during sustained heavy use
  • Image generation is absent, so visual work needs a second tool
  • Refusal behavior on ambiguous but legitimate requests is more conservative than some teams want

Claude’s positioning is narrower than ChatGPT’s and that is deliberate. There is no image generator and no sprawling marketplace of user-built assistants. What you get instead is a model tuned for sustained reasoning over large inputs, and a set of features — Projects, Artifacts, MCP connectors — that assume you are doing real work rather than experimenting.

The long-context behavior is the practical differentiator. Feed it a full contract set, a research corpus or a repository and the quality of recall holds up further into the context than most alternatives. That matters more than benchmark position for anyone whose job is reading.

The tradeoff is throughput. Heavy users on paid individual plans routinely hit message limits, which pushes serious workloads toward the API or higher tiers. Budget for that before standardizing a team on it.
